Vol. 14 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PHOENIX PARK CRICKET GROUNDS.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make arrangements for the restoration of the public cricket grounds convenient to the Wellington Monument in the Phoenix Park.

The demand for cricket facilities was not found to be sufficient to justify the maintenance of the enclosure referred to and the surrounding fence, which was falling into disrepair, was accordingly removed. The ground has not been allocated to any other purpose, but forms part of the open park, and it is not considered that any sufficient reason has been shown for re-enclosing it.

Can the Minister state whether he has received any applications within the past twelve months from junior clubs for the restoration of these grounds? I know there is a great demand for their restoration.

Personally I have not received any applications.

Will the Minister kindly make inquiries whether such applications have gone to his Department? I did not ask if he received them personally.
