Vol. 14 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SECOND VALUATION OF APPROVED SOCIETIES.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what is the reason for the delay in making known the results of the second valuation of Approved Societies under the National Health Insurance Acts, and whether, in view of the fact that otherwise all additional benefits will cease and no new additional benefits can be paid from July next, he will arrange for the results of the valuation to be made known without delay.

The full material required for valuation will not be available until the apportionment of the funds of Approved Societies and branches by the National Health Insurance (International Arrangements) Board has been completed. This apportionment was rendered necessary by the severance of the system of National Health Insurance in Great Britain and Northern Ireland from that in Saorstát Eireann on the 1st April, 1922.

The preliminary work necessary for the valuation is, however, well advanced. It is expected that the results will be available in sufficient time to enable societies and branches with disposable surpluses to adopt schemes of additional benefits to come into force on the 4th of July next when existing schemes will cease to operate.
