Vol. 14 No. 16

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - OBSTRUCTIONS IN RIVER BOYNE.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the serious stoppage caused to the current of the water in the River Boyne between Navan and Trim by islands, trees and debris; and whether he will consider making available such moneys as may be required to carry out the work of removing such obstructions during the coming summer.

The part of the River Boyne referred to in the question is not situated in any Arterial Drainage District. It is understood to be much obstructed by shoals, islands and weeds, and if the persons concerned desire it to be improved they should address a petition to the County Council under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925. If such a petition is made, and if as the result of it a drainage scheme is prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works, I shall be prepared to consider the question of making a free grant of part of the cost, as provided in the Act.
