Vol. 14 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ISSUE OF BIRTH CERTIFICATES.

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that Michael Bourke, Moore Lane, Cashel, Co. Tipperary, applied for birth certificate to the Registrar-General on the 4th February, 1926, and sent fee for same with application; that he has not received either the certificate or an acknowledgement to his application; if he is further aware that a similar application was made by Mary Ryan, Chapel Lane, Cashel, on the 5th February, 1926, and that she has not received either the certificate or an acknowledgement; whether, in view of the hardship caused to applicants in these and other cases, he will take steps to expedite the issue of birth certificates.

The sealed certified copies in the first case were despatched on the 11th instant. In the second case a reply was sent on the 18th instant. The search in the latter case having been unsuccessful, the further delay was inevitable in order to have the search checked. As mentioned in my reply to a similar question asked by Deputy Michael Hennessy yesterday, arrangements have now been made by which it is hoped that arrears in this matter will be reduced at an early date.

Is the Minister aware with regard to the case of Miss Ryan, in which he says that a letter was sent on the 18th instant, that I have a letter dated 20th instant stating that she has not received any communication and that unless she receives the certificate this week she will have to forego her passage to America next week?

It is quite possible that a letter sent on the 18th was not delivered on the 20th.
