Vol. 14 No. 17

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - URBAN EMPLOYEES' PENSIONS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what was the result of the consideration given by his department to the contributory pensions scheme for employees of urban authorities.

This matter is under consideration. Owing to the fact that the wages of municipal employees generally, the class mainly affected, exceed greatly the rates of wages payable in other similar employments, great difficulty is experienced in devising a suitable and equitable scheme. There is room for doubt whether permanent employees of local authorities are generally in favour of a contributory pensions scheme.
