Vol. 15 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLARE DRAINAGE SCHEMES.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what drainage schemes have been recommended by the Clare County Council to the Board of Works under the provisions of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, and what number of schemes have been sanctioned; in what areas do these schemes operate, and if he will state why the other schemes, if any, have been rejected.

Fifteen petitions for schemes have been received by the Commissioners of Public Works from the Clare County Council under the provisions of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925. So far none of these have either been sanctioned or rejected by the Commissioners, as owing to the large number of 352 cases to be dealt with and the unsuitability of the winter season, when streams are in flood, for inspections, the Commissioners' engineers have not yet been able to deal with any of the County Clare cases. It is hoped to have inspections made in some, at least, of these cases during the summer.
