CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - EXPORT OF CATTLE TO OR THROUGH NORTHERN IRELAND.

TOMAS MacEOIN

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can give figures showing the number of cattle exported from the Saorstát to or through Northern Ireland in the year 1925.

The number of cattle recorded as consigned from the Saorstát to Northern Ireland in 1925 was 107,982. The number recorded as consigned from the Saorstát through Northern Ireland to other countries (all to Great Britain) in 1925 was 53,112. The sum of the two figures, that is, 161,094, accurately represents the numbers exported across the frontier to and through Northern Ireland, but it is thought that a large number of cattle in the 107,982 recorded as consigned to Northern Ireland were subsequently exported to Great Britain.
