Vol. 15 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CO. LIMERICK LAND.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the estate of H. Davies and others (recently Lewis Estate), Robertstown, Co. Limerick, is yet vested in the Land Commission, and, if so, whether any portion of the principal is held for the future maintenance of the tidal banks, water courses and sluices; whether he is aware that a petition was forwarded by tenants of the estate with regard to banks, sluices and water courses twelve months ago, and that no reply has yet been received; and, further, whether he is aware that owners got £1,300 for thirty-five acres of land which has been derelict for the past six years.

An area of 63 acres of untenanted land on the Davies Estate acquired for distribution, have been vested in the Land Commission, the purchase money being £1,300. The tenanted lands on the Davies Estate have not yet been vested in the Commission.

The owners of the estate have agreed to the retention of £950 out of the purchase money for the upkeep of embankments and certain drains on the estate, and have lodged the sum of £400 for expenditure on these works, making a total contribution by the owners of £1,350. The petition referred to does not appear to have reached the Land Commission, but a copy of it was subsequently lodged by the Deputy.
