Vol. 15 No. 6

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - BIRTH AND MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES—GLANMIRE APPLICATION.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that in February, 1926, Mrs. Margaret Lillis, Glanmire, Cork, made application, accompanied by the necessary fees, to the Registrar-General's Department, for birth certificates for herself and children to enable her to procure the necessary passport and visas, before travelling to the United States to join her husband; whether he is aware that the birth certificates were not forwarded her until about 20th April, 1926, and marriage certificate, for which she also applied, has not yet been forwarded; whether he can state the cause of delay, and if he will instruct that this lady's application, and similar applications in future, shall be attended to promptly.

The facts are substantially as stated by the Deputy. The delay in forwarding the birth certificates was due to abnormal pressure of work in the Department referred to. The information given by the applicant in regard to the place of her marriage was not correct. As a result, however, of a further detailed search the entry has now been found. A communication was addressed yesterday to the applicant asking for the balance of the prescribed fee, and the sealed copy of the entry will be forwarded to her on receipt of the fee.
