Vol. 15 No. 6

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - LORD BARRYMORE ESTATE (CORK).

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the lands of Condonstown, Lord Barrymore estate, Co. Cork, have yet been acquired by the Land Commission for the relief of congests and evicted tenants; whether he is aware that Lord Barrymore purchased these lands from the sheriff in the year 1884; that the sheriff, it is stated, had no power whatever to convey, his only power to convey was a chattel interest (if any) and no guarantee was ever given of title; whether Lord Barrymore's title to these lands has yet been fully investigated, and, if so, whether as a result of such investigation Lord Barrymore's title to these lands has been established.

The Land Commission made an offer for the lands which was accepted on 9th ultimo by J. H. Smith-Barry. Pending investigation of his title, the Land Commission have gone into occupation of the lands under a temporary letting agreement, but the lands cannot be vested until title is shown to the satisfaction of the Land Commission. Meanwhile the question of the vendor's title is being dealt with.
