Vol. 15 No. 6

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REPAYMENT OF UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE CONTRIBUTIONS.

TOMAS MacEOIN

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state how many persons in the Saorstát have made claims for repayment of contributions after reaching the age of sixty years, of the balances in excess of benefits paid standing to their credit in the Unemployment Insurance Fund, and what is the total sum paid to such claimants.

The sum of £14,432 10s. 8d. was paid during the period 1st April, 1922, to 31st March, 1926, to persons resident in Saorstát Eireann who lodged claims for repayment of the excess value of contributions over benefit in accordance with the provisions of Section 25 of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920.

The number of claims lodged during the period 1st April, 1923, to 31st March, 1926, was 2,809.

It is not possible, without further notice, to give the number of persons who claimed from 1st April, 1922, to 31st March, 1923, as the work of examination and payment of claims during that period was performed by the British Ministry of Labour.
