Vol. 15 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - REPAYMENT OF FINANCE CONTRIBUTIONS.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the reasons why Thomas Donoghue, St. John's, Athy, Co. Kildare, has been refused repayment of contributions as provided for in Section 25 of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, and whether he will have further inquiries made with a view to repayment.

The claim for refund of contributions under Section 25 of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, made by Thomas Donoghue, St. John's, Athy, was disallowed on the grounds that he had received benefit in excess of the amount paid by him in contributions, the sum of £10 6s. 6d. having been paid in benefit whilst only £8 11s. 1d. had been paid in contributions by the claimant.

The claimant denied the receipt of benefit totalling £10 6s. 6d. and stated that he only received 35/-. The matter was further investigated and considerable correspondence passed between the Department and the local secretary of the claimant's union, who would appear to have been convinced that the amount of benefit paid exceeded the contributions. The benefit which is questioned by the claimant was paid in 1913, 1914, and 1915, and a record of this benefit is as follows:—
