Vol. 15 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - OLD AGE PENSION CLAIM (OULART).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state why an old age pension was refused to Mrs. Mary Keely, Kilnamanagh, Oulart, Gorey, Co. Wexford.

This claim was disallowed on the 6th February, 1926, on the ground that the claimant's means, as calculated for old age pension purposes, exceeded the statutory limit of £39 5s. a year which debars her from any pension.

Is the Minister in a position to say how that is arrived at?

Mrs. Keely is residing with her brother-in-law on a farm of 35 Irish acres, the valuation of which is £22 10s. and the annuity £22 10s. It is considered that is ample means.

Would the Minister say what obligation a brother-in-law has to keep his sister-in-law?

The only way to get over that difficulty is to change the Act.
