Vol. 15 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DIVISION OF CANNON ESTATE (MAYO).

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state the cause of delay in dividing the lands of the Cannon Estate, Knockmore, Castlebar, Co. Mayo; if he is aware that acute congestion exists in that district, and it is stated that the small farmers adjoining were promised to be given possession of those lands last January.

Mr. HOGAN

A scheme has been prepared for the division of these lands and will be put into operation as soon as practicable.

Would the Minister say how long this estate is in the hands of the Land Commission and whether it is being worked at a loss at present?

Mr. HOGAN

Is it not a wonder that the Deputy would not give me notice of that question to enable me to answer? This estate was purchased under the 1923 Act. The Deputy might ask me the same question in regard to any other estate purchased in Ireland.

Is the Minister aware that the lands are going waste at present?

Mr. HOGAN

I am not.
