Vol. 16 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SUSPENSION OF INCREASED RENTS.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of applications made to the Courts by the sanitary authorities in Saorstát Eireann since the 22nd day of June, 1923, for orders suspending increased rents of dwelling-houses to which the provisions of the Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restrictions) Act, 1923, apply, and the number of dwelling-houses, the rents of which were found by the Courts to have been increased notwithstanding that such houses were not in a reasonable state of repair within the meaning of the Act.

To secure the necessary material for a reply to this question, it would be necessary to circularise every District Court Clerk and every Clerk of the Crown and Peace, instructing them to make a search through their books covering a three-year period. The search would be troublesome and would involve a good deal of time. Before issuing any such instructions, I should like to be satisfied that some good public purpose would be served by collecting the information sought.
