Vol. 16 No. 14

IN COMMITTEE ON FINANCE. - VOTE 22.—STATIONERY OFFICE.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £103,550 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na blinana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1927, chun Páipeárachais, Clódóireachta, Páipéir, Creamuíochta agus Leabhra Clóbhuailte i gcóir na Seirbhíse Puiblí, chun Tuarastail agus Costaisí Oifig an tSoláthair agus chun Ilsheirbhísí Ilghnéitheacha mar aon le Tuaraiseí Díospóireachtaí an Oireachtais.

That a sum not exceeding £103,550 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1927, for Stationery, Printing, Paper, Binding, and Printed Books for the Public Service; for the Salaries and Expenses of the Stationery Office; and for sundry Miscellaneous Services, including Reports of the Oireachtas Debates.

This Estimate shows a net decrease of £15,060 as compared with the Estimate of last year. There has been some criticism in the Press as to the cost of this service. I think the value of that criticism may be gauged from the fact that on one occasion a figure was quoted as representing the cost of this service for a particular year which could only have been arrived at by adding together the Estimate for the year to the expenditure in the previous year. The House might be interested to know that the actual expenditure of the Stationery Office in the year 1924-25 was £34,550 less than in the preceding year, and in the year 1925-26 the expenditure was £62,683 less than in the year 1923-24, and that, notwithstanding the fact that the demands on the Stationery Office during those two years were very considerably increased. The Estimate generally is on the same lines as last year, and I do not think ther is anything in it calling for any particular comment.

Vote put and agreed to.
