Vol. 16 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT (CORK).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the reason for refusing to grant unemployment benefit to Mr. John Sullivan, Greenmount Road, Ballydehob, Co. Cork, an employee of the Cork County Council.

The claim made by John Sullivan, of Greenmount Road, Ballydehob, Co. Cork, on the 29th March, 1926, was allowed, subject to the production by him of contemporaneous evidence of unemployment, as required by Section 7 (1) (ii) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, and the regulations made thereunder. The claimant has not given any evidence of unemployment in respect of any day subsequent to the date of his claim. For this reason the claim has become ineffective, and no benefit can be paid on it.

Mr. MURPHY

If I furnish the Minister with a statement from the claimant, giving the names of people who filled in the form corroborating his claim, will he have it looked into?

The claimant can put himself in order by filling in a particular form which was supplied to him when he lodged his claim, but which has not since been received from him.

Mr. MURPHY

My information is that the claimant actually filled in that form, and he has furnished me with the names of the persons who signed it on his behalf.

The claim has not been returned to my Department. The solicitor communicated with the officials of my Department in this matter, and was informed just as I have informed the Deputy. We were not given the information by the solicitor which has now been given by the Deputy.
