Vol. 16 No. 21

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - STREET OBSTRUCTION AT FAIRS.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Justice whether instructions have been issued, or will be issued to the Gárda Síochána to prevent persons from displaying cattle and other stock for sale on footpaths in towns where fairs and markets are held on the streets, and likewise in towns where there is ample accommodation.

No instructions have been issued to the Gárda Síochána to interfere with persons displaying cattle or other stock for sale on footpaths at country fairs, except in cases coming under their observation where such display causes or is likely to cause obstruction to persons using the footpaths. I understand that the Department of Local Government and Public Health in consultation with the Department of Lands and Agriculture have at present under consideration the general question of the better regulation of fairs and markets, and, pending the result of these deliberations, it is not my intention to issue any special instructions to the Gárda Síochána in the matter.
