Vol. 17 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GAELTACHT COMMISSION'S RECOMMENDATIONS.

DONNCHADH MAC CON ULADH

asked the President whether, in view of the economic conditions existing in Tirconaill especially in the Irish-speaking districts as disclosed in the report of the Gaeltacht Commission, he can indicate a date by which he will be in a position to make a statement as to what action the Government proposes to take as a result of the Commission's recommendations.

The Departmental examination of the Report of the Gaeltacht Commission has not yet been completed. The report contains no less than 82 recommendations, many of which require to be closely studied in their various aspects and with particular reference to the financial demands to which their adoption would give rise. The examination is proceeding as rapidly as possible, but I regret that it is not yet feasible to indicate a date upon which a statement as to the action which the Government may feel in a position to take on the report could be made.
