Vol. 17 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LAOIGHIS PENSION APPLICATION.

asked the Minister for Finance if an application has been received for a pension under the Superannuation and Pensions Act, 1923, from Mr. Denis Deevy, 83 Main Street, Portlaoighise, Leix; whether the applicant submitted testimonials as to his activities and national sympathies in pre-Truce times from very active and prominent supporters of the Sinn Fein movement and Irish Volunteers in the area in which he served in the R.I.C. previous to resignation, and where he now resides, and whether it is now proposed to sanction payment of a pension in this case, and, if not, if he will state the reasons for the refusal.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.

As the Minister has already informed the Deputy, he is not satisfied that Mr. Deevy resigned from the Royal Irish Constabulary on account of his national sympathies, and is, therefore, unable to make an award of pension in this case.
