Vol. 18 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CORK SPINNING INDUSTRY.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the Cork Spinning and Weaving Company's premises, in liquidation, is advertised for sale; that it is equipped with the most modern machinery, and when working full time paid out £1,000 in wages per week; and whether he is in a position by way of subsidy or otherwise, to give assistance to enable this firm to re-start business.

I am aware that the premises of the Cork Spinning and Weaving Company (in liquidation) are advertised for sale. The only power I have to give financial help to this or any other firm similarly situated is under the Trade Loan (Guarantee) Acts. An application was made some considerable time ago under those Acts but was not subsequently proceeded with. I understand that it was recently proposed to submit a fresh application, but so far no such application has been received.
