Vol. 18 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF KILDARE LANDS

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether the Land Commission intend to acquire for the relief of congestion the holding with old schoolhouse thereon, containing about 27 acres statute measure, lately held by Mr. George Mooney, on the Chas. Bury Estate, in the townland of Downings North, electoral division of Downings, County Kildare.

Mr. HOGAN

In the schedule of particulars lodged in the estate of Reps. of Charles A. Bury, George Mooney has been returned as tenant of two holdings comprising 26a. 0r. 39p., respectively, held by him under judicial rents. This estate has not yet been reached in its turn to be dealt with by the Land Commission and until it is reached the Land Commission will not be in a position to say whether the holdings are of such a character that they should be dealt with as "retained holdings."

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he is aware that Coolagh Bog. Mylerstown, County Kildare, on the Estate of Sir Arthur Aylmer, was purchased some years ago by the Land Commission; that this bog is not yet divided amongst the local congests, about thirty in number, and whether he will instruct the Land Commission to have allotments made to them immediately on the most favourable terms possible, so that they can increase their means of livelihood by the cutting and sale of turf.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission cannot identify the bog referred to as Coolagh Bog as having been purchased by them from Sir Arthur Aylmer. If the Deputy gives me further particulars that will identify the bog I will have inquiries made.
