Vol. 18 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ARMY DISCHARGE ALLOWANCES.

asked the Minister for Defence whether it is a fact that one year's pay with allowances is granted to officers on being discharged from or leaving the Army, and that no pay or allowance is granted to non-commissioned officers and men discharged from or leaving the Army, and, if so, whether he will state why there exists such preferential treatment as between commissioned officers and non-commissioned officers and men, and whether he is prepared to review the whole position with a view to making allowance to non-commissioned officers and men when leaving the Army.

Officers who resign their Commissions are being granted gratuities of one year's pay and allowances. The question of the issue of gratuities to non-commissioned officers and men on the termination of their engagements is being considered.
