Vol. 18 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SAORSTAT BUILDING SCHEMES.

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state or estimate the number of dwelling-houses built otherwise than by local authorities in each of the last twenty years, or other convenient period, distinguishing those in respect of which subsidies have been given by the State or local authorities from those built without such aid.

There are no statistics available to show the number of dwelling-houses built other than by local authorities in each of the last twenty years.

The number of houses built under the Housing Act, 1919, by a public utility society is 36 and by private persons under the Housing (Building Facilities) Act, 1924, is 2,698 and the number built, or being built, up to the 31st December last under the Housing Acts, 1925-26, is 4,029. The number built since 1919 not eligible for subsidies is not available.

Would it not be possible to obtain the information sought in the question from the Valuation Office or from the clerks to the different local bodies?

It may be possible to get some fuller information. I will look into the matter again. At the moment, there is no further information available.
