Vol. 18 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION AND DIVISION OF KILDARE LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state what progress has been made by the Land Commission in acquiring the lands of Killmalum, Kennycourt, Horsepasstown, and Tulfaris, comprising about one thousand three hundred acres, on the estate of Mr. Edward Hornidge, in the Ballymore-Eustace area, County Kildare, and when the lands will be ready for allotment amongst the one hundred congest applicants whose names have been furnished to the Land Commission.

The Land Commission issued on the 19th ultimo to the owner, Captain Edward S. Hornidge, an offer for the purchase of some 402 acres situate in the townlands of Ballymore-Eustace.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he will expedite the acquisition and division amongst local congests of the lands of Morristown-Billar, on the Taylor Estate, near Newbridge, County Kildare, and whether he will state what progress has been made in acquiring these lands.

Mr. HOGAN

The owner's objection to the acquisition by the Land Commission of the lands of Morristown-Billar as untenanted land, as already stated in reply to the Deputy's previous question of 1st December last, was allowed on appeal. The lands were subsequently gazetted on 31st December last, as tenanted lands, which would, if not excluded in consequence of a valid objection, vest in the Land Commission on the appointed day. The owner objected on the grounds that the lands came within the provisions of Section 24 (2) (b) of the Land Act, 1923. The Land Commission published on the 8th ultimo a notice of intention under Section 24 (3) of the Act to declare that the lands are required for the purpose of relieving congestion, unless cause be shown to the contrary within two months from the date of publication.
