CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF OFFALY ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he can state what steps the Land Commission have so far taken for the purpose of having the Warburton Estate, Garryhinch, Offaly, acquired and divided amongst the uneconomic holders and landless men in the area, and the present position in regard to this matter, and if the Land Commission will undertake to safeguard the position of people having existing turbary rights if and when the lands are being divided.

The Land Commission have made an offer under Section 36 of the Land Act, 1923, for the purchase of some 830 acres situate in the townlands of Garryhinch and Garryhinch (Leix), on the estate of Richard Warburton. The offer has not been accepted.
