Vol. 19 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MEATH LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he can state what steps are being taken by the Land Commission to acquire the following lands in County Meath, viz.:— Lands of Commons and Mullaghboy (U.520), Grange Bective (U.518), and Balbreak; whether he is aware of the very serious congestion existing around these lands, particularly at the Commons, Navan, and if he will direct the Land Commission to speed up the acquisition and division of these lands, and see that greater consideration will be given to local applicants than was the case in the division of Williamstown (U.521).

The lands of Commons and Mullaghboy, on the estate of the representatives of James Buchanan, deceased, were published in a list of lands which will, if not excluded in consequence of a valid objection, become vested in the Land Commission on the appointed day.

The Commissioners made an offer for the purchase of the lands which was refused by the owner, and the question of the acquisition of the lands is being further considered.

The question of the acquisition of the lands of Grange Bective and Balreask is under consideration.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether he will state if the Land Commission propose dividing that portion of the Roadanstown Estate, Kilcock, not yet allotted among local uneconomic holders and landless men, or whether it is proposed to allot same to a migrant, notwithstanding the fact that parcels have already been allotted to three migrants on this estate.

The final allocation of the lands referred to is at present under consideration by the Commissioners.

Will the Minister indicate whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to place a migrant in possession of the main portion of the estate?

That is debatable.
