Vol. 19 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MOTOR CAR REGULATIONS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received a memorial from Bundoran Urban Council on the subject of the new motor car regulations; whether he is aware that the restrictions on hackney cars are causing serious injury to the tourist traffic as well as the fairs and markets of the Saorstát.

A memorial from residents of Bundoran and a copy of a resolution adopted by the Urban District Council of Bundoran were received requesting a modification of the Motor Cars (Temporary Importation) Regulations, 1926, so as to enable hackney motor cars from Northern Ireland to enter Saorstát Eireann without payment of duty in the interests of tourist traffic affecting Bundoran. The representations which have been made in this connection are still under consideration and I am not yet in a position to say whether any extension of the facilities provided by the regulations will be granted. A decision will be given at an early date.

Is the Minister prepared to accept further representations?

I would be glad to have them.
