Vol. 19 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WELFARE OF BLIND PERSONS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health how many local authorities have submitted to him schemes for the promotion of the welfare of blind persons, under the Blind Persons Act, 1920, and whether he proposes to take any special steps to secure the full discharge of their duties under the Act by local authorities.

Eight local authorities have submitted schemes for the promotion of the welfare of the blind; and eight others have schemes under consideration, as a result of representations made by my Department.

Returns are being compiled as to the number of young blind persons suitable for education or training in each county. Local authorities will be urged to adopt schemes to provide the necessary facilities for dealing with these cases and also with the necessitous and unemployable blind.
