Vol. 19 No. 9

PRIVATE NOTICE QUESTION. - ADRIGOLE IMPROVEMENT WORKS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state what steps the Land Commission have taken towards the carrying out of suitable improvement works in the Adrigole area; whether it is a fact that though a number of works were approved of by an Inspector only one such work has started, and whether in view of the intense distress in the area a number of suitable improvement schemes will be undertaken immediately.

The number of works sanctioned in the Adrigole area, County Cork, are two roadways, one in the townland of Crooha Upper and Lower, the other in the townland of Kilcaskin. The Crooha work is in progress. Kilcaskin road could not be undertaken owing to the opposition of interested parties.

There are three additional works now reported and awaiting sanction, one road at Derrylough, another road at Coolieragh, and a third at Cappoleigh. It is expected that these three works will be in progress by the end of this week. It is also hoped that the opposition in respect of the Kilcaskin road may be overcome, when the work will proceed.

Mr. MURPHY

In view of the position there and the fact that distress is more general than has appeared so far, will the Minister consider the advisability of sending down an official who will carry out a thorough investigation with a view to having some definite remedial measures introduced?

Mr. HOGAN

I will.
