Vol. 20 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ARTERIAL DRAINAGE IN MAYO.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he can state a definite date on which the Board of Works will be in a position to give their report regarding the scheme of arterial drainage formulated by the Mayo County Council some twelve months since, but more particularly with regard to the Rivers Moy, Robe and Deel.

The Commissioners of Public Works are not in a position to name a definite date on which decisions on the several proposed drainage schemes received from the Mayo Co. Council can be communicated to the Council. The Commissioners have received 87 schemes under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, from the Mayo Co. Council, and as many of these are very large and complicated it will be readily understood that with the limited engineering staff available several years must elapse having regard to the total number of schemes to be investigated in the Saorstát before all of those from Co. Mayo can be dealt with.

Engineers are at present engaged on the examination of the proposals received in respect of the Moy and Robe rivers. The Commissioners have received their engineer's report on the Deel river, but have not reached a decision in this case pending the receipt of their engineer's report on the Moy river, of which it is a tributary.
