Vol. 20 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BANKING COMMISSION FINAL REPORT.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the final report of the Irish Banking Commission will be circulated amongst members of the Dáil before they are asked finally to pass the Currency Bill into law.

The final report of the Banking Commission, which is about to be printed, will be put in the hands of Deputies when available. I may point out that the first interim report of the Commission, which forms the basis of the Currency Bill, was, as stated in paragraph 3 of the report, presented to me with a view to immediate action being taken upon it if approved.

I have now read the final report of the Commission, and there is nothing in it modifying the proposals made in the interim report, or affecting the provisions of the present Bill. Accordingly it is not proposed to delay the passage of the Bill.
