Vol. 20 No. 18

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CORRANMORE (CO. CORK) SLIP.

asked the Minister for Fisheries whether in view of the further inspection of the site of the proposed slip at Corranmore, Goleen (Co. Cork), made recently by a Department Inspector, it is intended to proceed with the work, and whether, seeing that the cost of the proposed slip will not be excessive, the work will be undertaken immediately.

I am not prepared at present to recommend expenditure from State funds on the construction of a landing place at Barley Cove, Corranmore. The number of locally-owned yawls is very small, and the fishing for herrings in the Cove is at present being carried on by an adequate number of motor yawls and boats from outlying districts which land their catches at Baltimore. The work, as a matter of fact, would cost between £400 and £500, and the number of boats working there would hardly warrant that.
