Vol. 22 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SEED-TESTING.

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state if it is his intention to set up seed-testing stations in convenient centres throughout the country, or such other means, as he may think fit, for the purpose of testing farm seeds free, to secure to farmers sound, clean seed of a high germination.

Mr. HOGAN

It is not intended to set up any additional seed-testing stations in the Saorstát. The existing station is in a position to deal with all the samples submitted for testing by farmers and traders, as well as with samples taken by inspectors under the Weeds and Agricultural Seeds Act, under the operations of which the quality of seeds used by farmers has been brought, generally speaking, to a very satisfactory standard. The nominal fee of 3d. per sample is charged to farmers, and it is not proposed to modify this arrangement.
