Vol. 22 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GORT COMPENSATION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence (1) whether in view of the fact that Michael Fitzgerald, The Square, Gort (who was on September 9th, 1922, fired at and severely wounded by members of the armed forces of Saorstát Eireann) is precluded from obtaining compensation under the Indemnity Act (No. 40), 1924, the Minister will consider the advisability, owing to the exceptional circumstances of the case, of granting an ex-gratia payment of £300, being the amount incurred by Michael Fitzgerald in surgical, medical and hospital fees.

I am having certain inquiries made with a view to deciding whether any payment might be made to Mr. Fitzgerald out of Army Funds. I will communicate the result to the Deputy as soon as possible.
