Vol. 22 No. 9

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MILITARY PENSION CLAIM (FERMOY).

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why the application for compensation of Mr. John McCarthy, Ballyvonare, Buttevant, County Cork, who was accidentally wounded while on guard duty in the Military Barracks, Fermoy, County Cork, on the 2nd March, 1922, was refused under the Army Pensions Act, 1923.

Mr. McCarthy was not wounded on the 2nd March, 1922, but at a later date, when he was not acting in the service of the State.

Would the Minister be prepared to make inquiries into the case, as I hold two doctors' certificates stating that this man was seriously wounded on the 27th March, 1922?

The question says the 2nd of March.

Would the Minister be prepared to inquire into the circumstances of the case again?

I have inquired. Is there any additional evidence?

What decision was come to?

That he was not acting in the service of the State at that time.

How could it be possible for him to be on guard duty in the military barracks, Fermoy?

There was a criminal conspiracy at that time against the State.

A successful one against the Irish Republic.
