Vol. 23 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TEMPORARY POSTMEN IN DUBLIN.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the number of temporary postmen in Dublin City district; and if he will state the average wages paid to each temporary postman per week.

In the Dublin City District 49 temporary postmen are employed on full-time duties at weekly wages averaging £2 8s. 3d. each. In addition, there are 76 temporary postmen employed on unestablished part-time duties, and in their case the wages are based on the number of hours worked and averages £1 7s. 9d. each for a working week of 27½ hours.

Does the Minister think it good policy to keep temporary postmen—married men—on such wages?

Yes; that is the reason they are on the wages list.
