CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SAORSTAT ADVERSE BALANCE.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the amount of the net adverse balance in the external trade of the Irish Free State, allowing for invisible exports and imports, in the year 1926-27, giving the different items of invisible trade.

The c.i.f. value of goods imported into the Saorstát exceeded the f.o.b. value of exports, whether imported or exported by ordinary trade channels or by parcels post, by £18,561,000 in the year 1926-27. This figure has declined to £15,970,000 in the calendar year 1927.

The invisible exports and imports for which estimates or exact figures are available in respect of 1926-27 were as follows:—

The values of certain other invisible exports and imports given for 1925-26 in the previous statement on this matter (reply to Parliamentary Question, 28/10/'27) are not yet available. These items include the invisible export, "Quarterly Adjustment of Post Office Transactions" (annual value £1,218,000 in 1925-26), and the invisible imports, "Pensions ex-R.I.C. and Judicial" (£1,345,000 in 1925-26) and "Other known debit items" (£374,000 in 1925-26).
