Vol. 23 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TELEGRAPHIC SERVICES.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he can state (1) the number of telegrams handed in; (2) the receipts from telegraphic services; and (3) the expenses of these services in each year for the past five years in (a) the city of Dublin, (b) elsewhere in the Free State; and whether he will furnish a statement classifying the telegrams handed in under the following headings:—(1) Betting; (2) commercial; and (3) other categories, giving the percentages of each.

As the answer consists of three tabular statements I propose to circulate it in the Official Report.

Following is the answer:—

* The number of Foreign Telegrams cannot be given separately.

It is not practicable to give a classification of the telegraph traffic on the lines desired by the Deputy. as the Post Office does not record the nature of telegrams and much trouble and expense would be involved in so doing.
