Vol. 23 No. 13

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ELIGIBILITY FOR LOCAL ELECTIONS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether persons in receipt of premiums from County Committees of Agriculture for bulls are eligible to be nominated and elected as members of County Councils.

The question is governed by Article 12 (4) (e) in the Schedule to the Local Government (Application of Enactments) Order, 1898. It was held in the case of Keeffe a Shaughnessy in 1915 that a person who was awarded by a Committee a premium under this cattle breeding scheme was disqualified for membership of the County Council by reason of being concerned in a bargain or contract with a Committee of the Council.
