Vol. 25 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - NATIONAL TEACHERS' PENSION FUND.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the report of the actuary appointed almost two years ago to investigate the position of the National Teachers' Pension Fund, which was promised for Whitsuntide, is yet available, and, if not, when he hopes to be able to publish it, and whether he is yet in a position to state what provisions it is intended to make in regard to pensions for lay teachers in convent and monastery schools, and for junior assistant mistresses in ordinary schools.

The actuary engaged on the investigation informs me that he hopes to complete his report within the coming week, and when the report is received I shall be in a position to make a further statement to the House. The treatment in the matter of pensions of any classes of teacher whom it may be decided to admit to the benefits of the fund can only be determined after the report on the condition of the fund has been considered.

Mr. O'CONNELL

Does the Minister hope to be in a position to make a statement before the adjournment for the summer?

Yes, I hope so. I am told the report is practically ready.
