Vol. 25 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IMPORTED COACH BODIES.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that an application has been lodged on behalf of the coach-building industry for a customs duty on imported coach bodies, and that the statutory fee was paid in August last; and whether he can state when the Tariff Commission will begin to hear evidence in connection with the application.

The facts are as stated in the first two parts of the Deputy's question. Since the payment of the fee, statements of evidence have been lodged with the Commission by opponents to the application, and I understand that the applicants have been in correspondence with the Commission for the purpose of modifying the scope of their application in order to meet the objections of some of these opponents. I am informed that the Commissioners propose to hold public sittings on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd August to hear evidence for and against the application.
