Vol. 25 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SECONDARY TEACHERS (PENSIONS SCHEME).

asked the Minister for Education whether he can now give definite information regarding the pension scheme for secondary teachers; and whether he can state when the scheme will be operative.

I hope to introduce immediately a Bill which will enable a pension scheme to be drawn up in reference to the class of teachers referred to in the question. I trust there will be no undue delay in making such a scheme operative.

Could the Minister say whether he has made any progress with the details of this scheme?

In anticipation that this Bill might become law, the scheme itself has been examined by my Department and the Department of Finance, and very considerable progress has been made—practically the main outlines have been settled. There has been a great deal of attention given to it between the two Departments.

Is the Minister prepared to give an idea of the scheme when introducing the Bill?

Not when introducing the Bill.

On the Second Reading then?

That is another matter.
