Vol. 25 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IMPORTED EVIL LITERATURE.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that numerous public bodies and councils, including the Leix County Council, have passed resolutions calling for the immediate introduction in the Dáil of the Bill dealing with imported evil literature; and whether it is proposed to introduce it before the adjournment for the Summer Recess.

As I stated on the 21st ultimo, I hope to be in a position to introduce the Censorship of Publications Bill during the present Session.

Will the Minister guarantee that legislation will be introduced before the Recess? May I remind him that on the 19th of October last, in reply to Deputy Peadar S. Doyle, who asked the Minister for Justice whether the Report of the Committee on Evil Literature has yet been considered by the Executive Council, and, if so, whether he intends to give immediate legislative effect to the recommendations contained in the report or to any of them, his reply was in the affirmative. I hope on this occasion the Bill will be introduced.

asked the Minister for Justice whether the minutes of evidence of the Evil Literature Committee have been submitted to the Executive Council, and when it is intended to circulate it to members of the Dáil.

The minutes of the evidence given before the Committee on Evil Literature have not been printed and it is not the intention to print them as I am satisfied it is unnecessary to incur the cost which printing would involve. I have, however, caused the original minutes of evidence to be placed in the Oireachtas Library so that any member of the Oireachtas who wishes to peruse them may have an opportunity of doing so.
