asked the Minister for External Affairs whether the position of High Commissioner for the Irish Free State in Great Britain is still vacant; whether it is the intention of the Government to fill it; and, if so, when.

The position of High Commissioner of the Irish Free State in Great Britain has not yet been filled; it is the intention of the Government to fill the vacancy, and the matter is at present under consideration; it is not possible to say at the moment when an appointment will be made.

Could the Minister say how long the position has been vacant?

Since Mr. MacNeill retired.

Who is carrying on the duties?

There are no duties to carry on.
