Vol. 25 No. 3

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SLIGO PENSION APPLICATION.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he can state why Mr. Thomas Beirne, Knockbrack, Aclare, Co. Sligo, did not receive the amount of eight shillings per week awarded him by the local Pensions Committee.

The case referred to may be that of Thomas Byrne, Stonepark, Aclare, County Sligo, who was allowed a pension of eight shillings a week by the Aclare Pension Sub-Committee on the 2nd May, 1927. An appeal was received, and the claimant's yearly means, as calculated for pension purposes, were estimated at £31 10s. 7d. The estimate was considered reasonable, and by a decision dated 14th June, 1927, a pension of four shillings a week was allowed.

Would the Minister be prepared to give instructions for the purpose of having this man's means revalued?

If the applicant is in a position to show that his income has been reduced since this decision was come to, he can make a fresh claim in the matter. So far as a decision has been given with regard to a claim already made, that matter cannot be re-opened. The question can only arise on a fresh claim.
