Vol. 26 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DISCHARGE OF POSTAL CLERK.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that Charles M. Williams, aged 58 years, who has been employed in the Accountant's Office, G.P.O., for the past 16 years as a temporary clerk, has received notice terminating his employment on the 2nd November; whether he is aware that this officer is in the fourth category for discharge under Finance Circular No. 38/27, and whether, in view of this fact, and the long and satisfactory service of the officer concerned, he will reconsider his decision in this case.

The facts of the case referred to are as stated in the question. As a temporary employee Mr. Williams is liable to discharge when a sufficient number of permanent recruits become available for the service. His discharge, however, is not yet due, and the notification for termination of his services by a definite date was issued under a misapprehension. His employment will be continued for the present, subject to efficient and satisfactory service.
