Vol. 26 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - AN OBJECTIONABLE SUNDAY PAPER.

DOMHNALL UA BUACHALLA

asked the Minister for Justice whether his attention has been called to the fact that on Friday last, October 26th, copies of an English Sunday paper containing the first instalment of a filthy immoral story, were delivered free to almost every household in the City of Dublin; and whether he will take immediate steps, and without waiting for further powers in this connection that are under consideration by the Oireachtas, to prohibit the importation or distribution of further issues of this paper.

My attention was not previously called to the issue of the paper referred to by the Deputy, but I have examined the extract sent to me by the Deputy taken from a serial story appearing in the paper. I am not aware of any power in law which would enable me to prohibit the importation or distribution of further issues of the paper. The Deputy will appreciate that I cannot anticipate the powers to be conferred by the Censorship of Publications Bill.
