Vol. 27 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SHELL-FISH DEVELOPMENT.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state how much of the £200 mentioned in the Estimates for the current financial year as being necessary for shell-fish development has been spent in the County of Kerry, and, if none has been spent in the said county, whether he intends to devote some of this money to the developing and protecting of the oyster beds in Kenmare River.

In the current financial year, so far, expenditure of about £20 has been incurred in connection with the examination of certain samples of shell-fish from County Kerry. I am quite willing to consider reasonable outlay on the examination of samples from the public oyster beds in the Kenmare River, or other steps in connection with the development of these beds: provided the result of inquiries, which I am having made on the subject, appear to justify that course.
