Vol. 28 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Robert English Estate (Westmeath).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether Mr. Robert English. Athlone, offered his estate at Cloonkeen, Tang, Westmeath to the Land Commission; whether he will state if this estate has been inspected by the Land Commission, and what action it is intended to take as a result; and whether, with a view to relieving the acute congestion existing in this area, he will instruct the Land Commission to expedite the acquisition and subdivision of this estate.

A communication from a person representing local people was received requesting the Land Commission to acquire the lands of Cloonkeen, on the English estate. The Land Commission had the lands inspected, and issued a proposal to purchase which was not accepted by the owner. I cannot say at the moment what further action the Land Commission may take in the matter.
